Walking through the Rouge Valley a month or two after a heavy snowfall, the low afternoon light filtered through the bare trees and snow-laden evergreens to create a playful grid of shadows across the snowbank. The pattern of cool blue shade crisscrossing with warm, sunlit patches looked just like a game played by the landscape itself. I painted this with thick, textured oil strokes to capture that rhythmic contrast—the heavy, quiet snow sitting on the boughs and the bright winter light dancing across the forest floor.

The textured fine art paper is an archival, Ph-neutral, OBA-free, thick and gorgeous 400 gsm medium, made by Strathmore. The special top coating of this paper gives it unique precision, contrast and color saturation for a matte medium. It is also much more resistant to water spills than most fine art paper.
