Paddling my kayak out on the open water near Crotch Lake, with a fishing rod resting across the deck, the horizon suddenly erupted as a massive storm cloud built over a rocky island, catching the last fiery light of the day. The sky turned into a dramatic swell of intense yellows, fiery pinks, and deep oranges hovering right over the dark pines and granite shores. I painted this with heavy, swirling oil strokes to capture that raw, electric energy—the quiet stillness on the lake right before the wild sky takes over.
