We stepped out onto Seaton Trail right as the afternoon cold began to settle, the kind of quiet winter walk where every footstep in the snow sounds amplified. Nyla kept trotting ahead, her paws breaking through the fresh crust, while long indigo shadows stretched across the drifts around us like ink on paper. The low yellow sun was hitting the pines at just the right angle, turning the snow top into a brilliant warm glow against the cool pale sky. I painted this using thick, deliberate brushstrokes to capture that stark contrast—the heavy blue shadows, the golden light breaking through bare branches, and that total, muffled silence you only get deep in the woods after a heavy snowfall.
