Drifting quietly into a sheltered bog in Algonquin at the end of the day, the water can feel almost motionless—a quiet, tucked-away stretch where bass tuck beneath the pads and the wilderness slows to an absolute standstill. But as the sun dips behind the ridge, the entire scene ignites. The sky flares into warm amber and glowing golds against deep violet, cutting a fiery channel of light right through the dark water and weaving between floating lily pads. Painted right at the scene, I used thick, textured impasto strokes to capture that raw, electric shift—the rugged granite, dark spires of pine, and the fleeting drama of northern light turning still water into a brilliant mosaic.

The textured fine art paper is an archival, Ph-neutral, OBA-free, thick and gorgeous 400 gsm medium, made by Strathmore. The special top coating of this paper gives it unique precision, contrast and color saturation for a matte medium. It is also much more resistant to water spills than most fine art paper.
